With Wessex Antenatal Birth Preparation Classes you can expect the highest of standards of antenatal labour and birth preparation and education. I am a midwife with over 20 years experience and a NCT antenatal teacher. I have developed a variety of courses to suit your individual needs ranging from a 2 days and 2 evenings course to individual classes for those who are unable to commit their time to a full course.

My classes are informal and relaxed and empowering. I promise not to lecture you, but will use a variety of teaching styles to sit all learning types, including group discussion, smaller group work and practical skills sessions to prepare you for labour and birth and early parenting.

My classes are always small and comfortable. I invite you into my home in Merley, Wimborne, Dorset, within easy reach of Poole and Bournemouth, where light refreshments are always available. You will have the opportunity to chat with other couples on the course and start to build those all important friendships that help you adjust to this new and exciting stage of being a parent.

The topics covered will include:
  • The driving force of labour and how labour starts
  • The environment of birth and ensuring it is how you want it
  • Making a birth plan and communicating confidently with the health professionals
  • The stages of labour and what is happening
  • Optimal fetal positioning and how to encourage your baby to get ready for labour
  • Practical skills on how to manage labour – positions that help, breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Pain relief options – natural and medical, what is best for you
  • Medical interventions – what may be needed and why
  • Caesarean birth
  • Birth Partners – what you can do to help

Cost

One day Intensive course

One intensive day starting at 10am through to 4 o’clock usually on a Saturday will cost £100 per couple. This day is sited to those who can not commit to a longer traditional course, and is also suitable for those requiring a refresher.

One to One classes

One to one classes may suit your timetable and learning preferences better and can be arranged at a time and place to suit yourselves. Usually 2 or 3 sessions are enough Cost £50 per couple for a 2 hour session.

These will include:
  • Course support material
  • Refreshments throughout the day
  • Ongoing support from Chrissy (Independent Midwife and NCT teacher) via email or telephone after your session.
