‘Giving birth can be a transformative and empowering experience for women.

This is especially true when a woman is prepared with information on what to expect, has a supportive circle around her and is fully informed about her options and choices’.

Wessex Independent Midwives are a close-knit team of fully qualified, private midwives working in Dorset, Hampshire and parts of Wiltshire. We offer personal care from a known and trusted midwife throughout your pregnancy, birth and the first month of your baby’s life.

Wessex Independent Midwives have supported women through uncomplicated pregnancies, very complicated pregnancies, easy labours, challenging labours, caesareans, inductions of labour, breech birth, water birth, multiple birth, postnatal recovery, breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, caring for babies and adjusting to family life.

Wessex Independent Midwives are passionate about their work and dedicated to providing a high standard of care whether you choose a homebirth or a birth in hospital.

Our midwifery model of care is based on the continuity of carer model which is the model of care the UK government aim to achieve. Independent, self employed midwifery is the only maternity care provision which meets and exceeds every target set by the government. It is the “gold standard the NHS is striving for”, David Cameron.

The physical and emotional benefits to mother, baby and the whole family of knowing and trusting your midwife and having continuity of carer are well documented. Women experience less anxiety, increased satisfaction, less need for pain relief, increased normal birth rates, decreased assisted birth and caesarean birth rates, decreased postnatal depression and post traumatic stress rates, improved beast feeding rates, improved family bonding.
